With all we have been through with Chloe and all that God has done for her and us….I STILL STAND AMAZED! Oh, He is so awesome and loves His children so much. Donnie came through the surgery very well…four hours later the doctor came to report he did well. He said, he had one of the worst backs he has ever seen…removed 3 disc and vertebrae…placed 6 metal pins and rod…fused bone and said he would require surgery for the other disc in about 5-10 years…he does not know us we take a day at a time and we will wait and cross that bridge when we come to it.

The miracle in all this is how well he is doing. The doctor said that he would be in lots of pain for a few days….he has not had any pain since in the room and I am having to make him use the pain pump…the nurses said if he did not when he did start hurting it would take too long for it to help if not in his system. The nurses came in and he has decided he wants to get up and walk to the bathroom…so we are praising and thanking God for bringing him through and that he is doing so well. God is so good!

Amy has talked with Tracy and she is doing good too! Praise God for His enduring love!

Chloe has spent the day taking care of PaPa…she wants to stay the night with me…oh, me. Kevin came by after work and Chloe changed her mind she wants to go home with daddy. Chloe said it is her job to get him something when he wants a drink of water. So she has jumped up everytime he mentions wanting something. She has watched everything very carefully…when the lab came up she wanted to know if it hurt him…she said his bed is not like my bed when I am in the hospital…I tried to explain he is in a bed that has things he can pull on to sit up because his booboo is on his back…she said I like my bed better. The other children came up this evening and Carly teamed with Chloe to be at his service…they had gloves on cleaning and pretending to being the doctor…too precious. So I can say today has been a 100% improvement over yesterday. THANK YOU LORD!

We have been up since 3:00AM so I will close knowing that God has kissed us today with His mercy and grace. Thank you for your prayers.

Please tell others about the Father/Daughter Dance benefit for Chloe on Friday, February 13th…7:00PM-9:00PM at St. Luke Ministry Center. The tickets are on sale for $20.00(couple). We are expecting daughters of all ages…some grandfathers will be escorting their grandaughters. Please make your plans to attend. Please purchase a ticket for someone and ask them to take someone special…a great evening is planned. Kevin and Chloe will begin the evening with the first dance. Tickets are on sale at many locations…if you need a ticket you may contact me…dwpaul2@yahoo.com. It will be a time you will never forget~~~~~~~~~

3F8 Update

January 27th, 2009

A special thank you to all of you who have posted to let us know of your love and support…it means so much to hear from you and know that you are praying for Chloe and her family. God bless you each for reaching out to Chloe and her family.

Amy and I read the article in the magazine on Cole who had a rare cancer and died within 8 weeks. He was three years old…they now have a foundation set up to help other families. They were on a fishing trip when Cole began to complain with his stomach…and as his dad said, “we went from a fishing trip to a funeral in just a few weeks.”

God is still God and deserves our praise! We may not understand our lives and why things happen…but it is the praise that will give us strength to go on. We received a sweet note from a family that lives here…their 8 year old daughter said for her birthday she wanted everyone who would be giving her a gift to give that money to Chloe…her mother and daddy sent $150….what a “SWEETHEART”…and I do mean a sweet heart<><

That mom and dad have certainly done something right….something to cause such a small child to think of someone else on their birthday…what a blessing!

Chloe is continuing on the Accutane daily for two weeks and then off two weeks….her little lips are cracked and bleeding even in the corners of her mouth…we continue applying things that help ease the discomfort…though she does not complain at all…her entire body is dry and chapped….of course, this time of year is bad for that anyway. The dosage these children have to take is about three times stronger than what an adult would take….so you can imagine.

Next Tuesday Donnie and Kevin will take her to Atlanta for the first day of her new protocol…we are praying that she has no bad reaction and all goes well. Please pray with us for this new 3F8 that she will be taking.
We are very thankful that this can be done in Atlanta….and praying that this new treatment will give the result we are hoping for….HAMA negative…so she can return to NY for treatment very soon.

Mark the date…for the Valentines Father/Daughter Dance and Benefit…Friday, February 13th-7:00PM-9:00PM, at St. Luke Ministry Center. Tickets are on sale now for $20.00 father/daughter…the proceeds will go to help Chloe and her family with medical and traveling expenses back and forth to NY. If you are local you may purchase tickets at Sanctuary Book Store, Kiddie Shoppe, Pigtails and Crewcuts, Bliss Salon. There is more information regarding this and those to contact on www.prayforchloe. I will also have tickets…call me @706-326-8795 or email me @dwpaul2@yahoo.com. There will be dads and g/dads taking their girls…all ages. Please get the word out and make your plans now to attend. A fun evening for everyone. I must note that Carson Hand will be doing the music for the dance…you do not want to miss this!

Back to Atlanta

January 27th, 2009

God Is In Control<><

Tomorrow Donnie, Kevin and Chloe will be in Atlanta around 8:00AM. Please pray for traveling mercies and for her treatment. They will begin with labs to be sure all is right to begin. Once they start the infusion it will take 6 hours. She will have this done in the clinic. We are hoping that she can get up and move around pushing her IV pole…boy does that bring back memories. Those days of chemo, and transplant….getting her up to walk…while pushing the IV pole…she would push and then she would stand on it and we would push her. She has asked me a lot of questions about tomorrow and why is she not going back to NY right now. I have answered as well as I can…Chloe wants to know exactly what is going on. She said, “Nana, I want to go to NY.” I told her we would, but we have to do this first. She said, “Okay”…Oh, the faith that she has in her mommie and daddy and us too…she totally trusts what we tell her and does not get concerned. So like we should always be while trusting God, but we just complicate things by trying to work it out ourselves.

We were blessed tonight by our wonderful church family that came out to CiCi’s Pizza for the “Chloe Night”…it is always a good time of fellowship. We are so blessed with loving people that want to help Chloe and her family. Thank you to those who are dedicated in coming each month. Even though Pastor Chris organized this…we will continue doing it every fourth Monday night of the month.

Donnie will be having major back surgery next week…he will not be able to drive or lift anything for 3 months or work for 6 months. So we ask that you will remember him next Thursday. This will be quite a mountain for him to climb, but I know God will supply His every need. Trusting God for this too! I think he is most concerned about not being able to do things with the grandchildren like he has been doing. Chloe stays with us a lot during the week and the others on the weekend…we are going to have to work this out somehow. As the surgeon reminded him today..at least this can be fixed. Praise God it can!

Please make plans for the Father/Daughter Dance Benefit for Chloe…February 13th..7:00PM-9:00PM…St. Luke Mininstry Center-tickets are on sale now for $20…Several places have tickets…Bliss Salon, Kiddie Shoppe, Pigtails and Crewcuts, Monkey Joe’s, 3 Wishes, Columbus School of Music, & Sanctuary Book Store. If you like you may contact me and I will be sure to get you tickets…dwpaul2@yahoo.com…”A magical evening”…please pass the word…fathers bring your daughters…grandfathers bring your g/daughter…uncles bring your neice…we want YOU to come…make plans now!

God is Good!

January 23rd, 2009

When there is nothing else left to say…one thing for sure He is good! If your day has been a disaster…He is good…If the report you received is not so good…He is still good…If the job you wanted was given to someone else…He is good…If the children have been anything but good…He is good.

I worked today while most everyone else was off…but I am thankful I have a job and that I am able to work. I remember I use to tell the children when they were moaning about going to school…I would tell them that somewhere there was a child that was sick and could not go to school and they wish they were able to get up and go to school. I tried to help them see that complaining was not good…we just need to be so thankful we have the health to get up and go to school or a job…I am not so sure that it worked on them, but I would try.

I know going to church I was saying to Donnie how I wish it would clear up…no raining and lots of sunshine. He said, thank You Lord for the rain…we are going to need it soon. I had my own sermon preached back at me…I could only say you are so right…thank You Lord for the rain…you know what we need when we need it and even some to store for later. It just seems to be one of those days. However, the children have had a good day off from school. Donnie picked up Carly and Chloe early when he was on the way home…then Kevin brought Seth out.

They have had a good time…now Chloe is spending the night. She is back on the two weeks of Accutane…she seems to be a little irritable from it and red and chapped. At this point in life we are just so thankful this is the worst symptom that we are dealing with…this can be dealt with. Kevin spoke with NY and they have talked with Dr. Alvarado in Atlanta and everything is set…he could not speak with them in Atlanta because of the holiday. Tomorrow we should know the dates when the next protocol will begin. For now we will just enjoy everyday and look forward to tomorrow.

Please continue those prayers for Chloe, Kevin, Amy and all the Shiver crew…and all those on our list that we continue believing with for their miracle.

Mark the date…for the Valentines Father/Daughter Dance and Benefit…Friday, February 13th-7:00PM-9:00PM, at St. Luke Ministry Center. Continue in Faith/Insurance Officially Maxed

January 23rd, 2009

When you do not know what to do…you just keep moving. The plan may not be plain to you…the route may seem hard, but we just keep moving in the direction that He shows us…because He IS leading.

I have had friends that we do not see real often, but we run into occasionally ask about Chloe…how is she? You don’t mean that she is still getting treatments…still going to NY…still going back and forth to Atlanta…STILL..STILL???

Yes, still she is receiving treatments…and might I say we are blessed for her to be able to STILL receive treatments. I think because it has almost been 3 years that those that have not kept up with her progress just does not know how this journey works. Really, I am not sure we do…only that we have Chloe and we are so thankful. In this world you thank God for every day you have…every birthday is such a milestone…

Chloe will soon be 6 years old. That just does not seem possible…six years old…we started this journey when she was 3 years old…the age Ayden is now…he was only 5 months old. We have got to think of something really special for this birthday…the past two have been spent in the hospital. Her 4th was during her 1st transplant…5th was in NY during treatment. So we are thinking{}

Kevin spoke with the doctors in Atlanta and they will be going up Tuesday for the beginning of the new treatment….she will begin at 8:00AM for labs and to be accessed(port accessed)…then once the labs come back good they will begin the 6 hour infusion…so it will be evening before they will leave to come back home. We are not sure exactly how she will react to this 3F8…it is different from what she has been receiving in NY…NY is sending this to Atlanta for her to be able to receive it there since it is over a 16 day span…we are thankful for that.

Chloe’s health insurance has finally maxed out….one million has been met. She is now I think considered uninsurable…I have not asked Kevin so I am not sure what this will mean for her treatments in NY.

Please continue praying for her…God is not surprised by this and will make a way…when there seems to be no way. He started this journey to NY and He will complete it in His timing. So for now we just CONTINUE ON<><

She called me this afternoon before I left work to tell us that she was ready to be picked up, but wait till I eat because mommie is grilling chicken. So I went and met Amy for the switch…she is here for a few days now.

She is waiting on me to finish so we can go to bed…so I will finish by saying…I thank God that we are able to continue on….I am not going to be concerned about this treatment…I think she is the first to receive this type of 3F8, but if she is getting it…He wanted her to have it.

As I have said before He leads and we will follow. Please continue those powerful prayers for Chloe, Kevin, Amy and all the Shiver crew. A special request has been made for Terri Maxwell and Connie Hughtson…remember them as you pray..PLEASE!

Looking Around

January 22nd, 2009

As I look around I see my children grown and with children of their own…our grandchildren…I see them growing up becoming young women and men…my oldest, Alexis is now 16yrs old.

Where did the years go…it seems as though it was yesterday when she was the size of Avery. Even Avery soon to be 6months old is growing way too fast. Just as I know you see time…flying…months quickly turning into years. Amy with four children probably has the least time to think about this, but when she is overwhelmed with the things little ones do to trouble their parents…I tell her as my mother told me…they are young now and are on your toes-when they are older they are on your heart. Boy, was that a true statement.

Amy said to that, “that will be easier.” I said to that, “no, my dear it is those things that tug and trouble your heart and you can do nothing about…only pray and trust God. She feels that way because she is right in the midst of her four growing…Seth soon to be 10 years old, Carly 7 years old, Chloe 5 years old, Seth 3 years old…two years apart leaves not much time…add Chloe and her needs you have a busy life.

However, as I remind her these are the easy years…she laughs. I guess you have to experience it to really know. Then I look around and see those we love so that are really aging and watching them become so feeble…when just “yesterday” they were vibrant, working and active…now they are pushing the walker to get around. Where did yesterday go??

This day and time our lives have become so much busier that we really miss seeing so much that is important in life. I am certainly giving my age thinking like this…however, I wish we could slow down and “smell the roses”. Tonight, looking at this precious couple we love so much that is part of our church family…I looked and thought how quick time flew…you were my age(or about)and now you are feeble and it seems this all took place in just months…it could not be years. Yet, it has been…we have been so busy in our lives that we have forgot to see them as they age…it is as though one week they were much younger and today they are so much older. I pray that we all learn to slow down…enjoy those we love and appreciate…take time to talk with them…give them our time…sit with our young ones and just listen to them play and talk…stop to hear what they are saying to us…MAKE time for them…LOVE!LOVE!LOVE!

I thought it was so precious the other day I was talking with Amy and she was coloring with Carly and Chloe…days of sharing that cannot be replaced ever! When I think of the time I am at work and the time four days a week I am home…it is scary. I know we have to so just do it. Well, I am…but I will just make the most of the time I am at home.

My niece, Tracy was saying the other day…I remember the days I stayed at Nana’s(my mother) like Chloe is staying with you. That was yesterday….yesterday was 30years ago. It flew! Let’s all take time for one another…when we are gone people will not remember the time we stayed on the job or the position we held, but how we LOVED them.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding. Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check. Otherwise they will not come near to you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice you righteous ones, and shout for joy all you who are upright in heart.” Psalms 32:8-11

Our family extends love and appreciation to each of you for your love and decication to Chloe and our family…there are not enough words to say THANK YOU!!!

A New Era

January 20th, 2009

Our country now moves into a new era…my prayer is that God will guide and direct every step and every decision. We continue on taking one day at a time and believing God for our every need. For it is the Maker of heaven and earth that is really in control…not man, but God<><

Chloe rests in the hollow of His great hand…when trusting Him…”All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 While we trust Him with her and all the other needs in our lives…our faith tells us that for all our needs we are not to “let our faith rest in the wisdom of man, but in the power of God.” II Corinthians 2:5  His power causes…”the things that are impossible with men are possible with God.”  Luke 18:27 So why should we worry or become anxious….He has it ALL in His control!

Chloe is spending the night again tonight…she stayed last night and told Kevin earlier when he called that she was staying again tonight…so there it is the “princess” has had her mexican for dinner…playing with Sophie…watching some cartoons…taking her medicine…and soon will be going to bed.

The Accutane this round is really causing her lips to be chapped and peeling…we try to keep something on them, but with the wind and cold, add the Accutane…you can’t help but have dry skin and really chapped lips. Definitely something we can deal with. As I post she was telling me that her chest was hurting…she still has a lot of congestion…she has already had some medicine…so we will see how she feels tomorrow.

She is taking us down memory lane…she is looking at pictures…some with hair others without…she comments on the ones with hair….how she likes her longer hair. I told her she would soon have longer hair. She said, I don’t ever want to not have hair again. I told her I hope that too! So we are blessed this moment for a good day…good health…longer hair…surrounded by those we love…the promises of God that we are standing on…laughter of Chloe that is better than any medicine! May God bless each of you…may you feel His mighty presence…may your every need be met.

Please continue the powerful prayers for Chloe, Kevin, Amy and all the Shiver crew. Extending our prayers to all those on our prayer list….

Logan’s Story

January 17th, 2009

I just saw a clip of a 13 year old that lives in Nebraska on a ranch…himself a cowboy. He had called into a christian radio station and such a message from a young person. You may have seen it…his name is Logan. He went on to say that his dad was roping a calf, born from a cow that was not in the best health…the calf broke her back…Logan had put the calf down and you could hear in his voice how upset he was…he said I wanted to tell you guys something….when I had to put her down I asked God WHY….she was special to me…God said, My Son was special to me too. Logan said when we lose someone we love God understands…he said, His son died for a purpose and He will always understand..just run to Him.

Oh, the truth in that…and this young child has already found it out. God does understand…it does not matter what we are going through…if it is important to us..it is important to Him. If He has not answered our prayer…it is not because He has not heard it, but it will be in His time not ours. We MUST run to Him….keep running to Him…allow Him to speak to us as He did to Logan. He will console our troubled hearts…give peace to those fighting a battle….strength to the weary…comfort to those who are mourning<><

Today, I receive His peace and strength. Thank you to Don for sending me that clip…it blessed me today…and something I needed to hear. Amy and I took Chloe to the ENT today for a recheck since her tubes were placed…all good. They did another hearing test…that has not changed…other than she is able to hear better without the fluid behind both ears. She is very close to the appointment where she will receive her “hearbetters”(hearing aids).

We are so excited about that. She spent the night last night and was staying tonight till she found out that Carly had spend the night company, Abigail…and she wanted to go home to play with them. They will have a good time playing together. Thank You Lord that they are enjoying doing things like this. Up to this past fall we had to be so careful because of Chloe taking chemo and her counts being so low…so this just seems strange, but good! One of the purposes of the new protocol is to lower her immune system to hopefully change her HAMA to negative. I am so thankful for good doctors that have so much knowledge…of course, I know WHO gave them their wisdom and understanding too.

Merry Christmas!

December 25th, 2008

Our family wishes each of you a blessed Christmas….we sure have had a great one….quiet…low key, but all the same wonderful…we have been together.

We were busy yesterday…like I am sure you were…getting all those last minute things made ready for Santa to come…I was busy cooking. Today, the children called us very early to tell us all what Santa left.

Chloe said, I got the cat, monkey and bicycle that I wanted. She was so excited….Carly and Seth was too busy to talk so she told me all that Santa left for them…Ayden too! Donnie and I went over early to see them and they were playing and were so excited…what a blessing to see each of them so happy.

They all came out for Christmas dinner, including Ashley, Mark, Avery, Alexis and Tyler…we have enjoyed them all day. What a blessing to be surrounded by those you love…nothing is any better. I have thanked the Lord so many times today for His goodness and blessings.

Chloe has said several times…”this has been a good day”…yes, baby it has been a good day! Life is so fragile…none of us know if we will all be together in another year….I just believe that is why the Lord wants us to live every day as there will not be a tomorrow…have no worry for tomorrow for it will take care of itself. Can we change it anyway? No, so why have thought of it if we cannot alter it.

I am so thankful that Dan (Tracy’s husband-my niece) was able to come home on R&R from Afghanistan. What a blessing that they were able to enjoy Christmas with their two little ones….God is so good! So as I said, though it has been low key….we have been blessed!

I hope that each of you have received God’s best and blessings more than you can contain. May His love surround you and His strength sustain you for where you are in life. Amy and I were talking and she said that she was so thankful that Chloe had been able to enjoy Christmas…she said at the same time she was thinking about all those that they knew that would be missing their child this Christmas….it is such an emotional time of year to not have your loved ones with you and to know you never will again.

We pray for each of you that His comfort and peace will fill you.

“Chloe will live and not die, she will tell of the great works of the Lord.” Psalms 118:17
